Although our specialties differ, our goal is the same—to stop this national epidemic that has taken our children.
On February 19, 2013, Orange County , California experienced a senseless murder spree. My brother in law, Mel Edwards was carjacked by a young man who had what seems to be, similar characteristics to the murderer who devastated your community. We send our sincere condolences to all of you. As a former educator, your story touched me profoundly. Sadly, I am now experiencing the heartbreak that you have gone through. I want to be part of this movement and will begin by attending a county meeting March 8, the day before my brother in law’s funeral. Please keep us informed about anything that we can do in California. I wrote to the LA Times, hoping to have my letter at the very least printed in the editorial section. It didn’t happen. I suspect because I wrote about how the media. gaming and film industry have to begin to create entertainment that fosters the best in the human spirit, not the worst. I will not give up on this cause. I can’t stand by and see another child or another family go through this. As a nation we certainly owe future generations hope that the leaders of this country wake up to the horrors of gun violence, violent video games and the desensitizing effect they have had on our American youth.
We are all terribly sorry for your loss and encourage you to continue to speak out. It is only through keeping the conversation alive that change will come. Wishing you the best.
Can doctors in other communities join? Like, maybe, doctors from California?
Thank you for your support however at this time we are keeping it to just Newtown Physicians. We hope this will change in the future.
